The Westerkappeln Church

the mother church of St. John's Cappeln, MO

The Evangelical City-Church at Westerkappeln by Heinz Weyer

The oldest part of the church is its tower. It came into being at the end of the eleventh century, it was first a defense tower. The ringing consists of two bronze bells (Anna & Katrina) from the years 1519 and 1641. Together with the rooster the tower has a height of 43 meters. In the twelfth century a Romanesgue nave was added to the tower. The remainer of this building with the round arched entrance one can tell on the dark colored rocks in the lower part of the Southwall of the present nave.
